.. I didn’t do it 🀣 We love watching your do .. I didn’t do it 🀣

We love watching your dogs play.

Play time is a time we watch how they speak to each other. What do we look for?

+ calming signals
+ taking turns being the one submitting
+ floppy bodies
+ taking breaks going back and forth to being in contact and then stepping back to run around and chase each other
+ pairs that are similar in play style

What's the difference between your at home trainin What's the difference between your at home training program vs our school?

Time

Simply put - when your dog goes to school they learn for the whole day. And that's why we deliver results because we take training off your hands, and do it for you.

If you're a parent you already have your hands full with remote learning.

Let us help you with your four pawed family member and enroll them in our Prep School.

⚠️ My dog won't listen to me when I call him
⚠️ My dog chases the birds
⚠️ My dog bolts out of the door

There are so many things that dog parents will ask us help on.

And so one of the things we focus on is building engagement.

One of the ways we do this - and you can to is hand targeting or playing "touch".

Each touch is rewarded with a treat and so instead of calling your dog off a bird (Hey Buster don't chase the bird - *command doesn't work) you can just say

Touch!

And all of a sudden it's a game you're redirected your pup to.

First Monday of the year!!! School is open and ou First Monday of the year!!!

School is open and our students were excited to start. Imagine for a moment the potential when:

- Your dog attends class the WHOLE day
- Your dog's class has a low student to instructor ratio
- Learns along side their classmates

And attends school for 6 months.

The potential in how much your dog can learn is endless.

Do you know a skill that you need in dog training? Do you know a skill that you need in dog training?

Patience.

Dogs don’t speak human
And humans don’t speak dog

But both are doing their best to understand each other.

When your dogs feel safe and training feels positive, because you are patient, the possibilities are endless as to what you and your dog can do together.

Are YOU the source of that source of fun?

When you know what your dog loves the most and you become the source of that "favorite thing" your bond with your dog gets stronger.

But in giving you're doing it in partnership with your dog - not as a way to control, rather to be able to experience these favorite things they love to do... together!

Some of the dogs in our school are brought to us b Some of the dogs in our school are brought to us by their parents asking for help because they are "reactive"

One of them is the Boston Terrier @maggielovesorbit with her classmates in this picture.

We assessed her and concluded Maggie just didn't "understand dog" language too well. She would get over excited, burst into zoomies and not know how to play nice with all the dogs or read signals.

She really wasn't reactive. What she needed was the support of her balanced classmates to learn dog manners.

Now we didn't throw her in the pack and let her be - that's not what we do at all.

We evaluated her - and other dogs and determined who she was a match for.

When she communicated inappropriately we guided her on an alternate behavior - gave her a bit of a mental break. We gave her confidence building exercises so that she relaxed around her classmates and now look at her trying her best to be teacher's pet all the time!!!

ALL dogs need guidance in some form or another. We are here are professionals to help you evaluate the best learning lessons for your dog.

Do you think she saw you pass me the class notes 🀣

LET'S TALK RESOURCE GUARDING
Dogs resource guard to maintain control of a resource in their possession or ... even something they think should be in their possession.

Right now these three students are learning to sit next to each other as treats are scattered in front of them as they pracice "Leave It.

Not only are they learning the command, they are also learning they don't have to resource guard.

#GREATdogsgotoschool
Yes that was me Barking. I need to go potty πŸ’¦ Yes that was me Barking. I need to go potty πŸ’¦

Yesterday we talked about the Humane Hierarchy of Behavior Modification.

BARKING is often times brought up by our student’s parents to address.

Your dogs bark as:
πŸ”Š A way to greet
πŸ”Š Out of excitement (during play)
πŸ”Š To get attention
πŸ”Š To express concern
πŸ”Š To express anxiety, fear, surprise, boredom or loneliness
πŸ”Š To alert
πŸ”Š To protect or guard

Basically ... for many different reasons.

Your dog is communicating.

When we are observing your dog’s barking we are assessing if they are communicating or stressed.

And if they are communicating we look to see what is triggering them or what their needs are.

Excessive barking is monitored and modified accordingly.

#GREATdogsgotoschool
How do we approach training? We follow the least How do we approach training? We follow the least invasive model or the "Humane Hierarchy of Behavior Modification"

Before we start to ask your dog for a specific behavior we look first at:

1. Health, nutrition and physical setting
Let's say your dog acts aggressively when a child pets their head. Well we would look to esee if your dog has an ear infection first - to see if they are simply reacting to pain.

2. Antecedent arrangements
Dogs indoors that bark at people walking by are experiencing a trigger. By simply frosting your glass or window - you could eliminate your dog's exposure to the triggers. If you have been to our campus you will notice we have frosted our windows for this reason.

3. Positive reinforcement.
Positive reinforcement is the addition of something the dog desires in order to increase the frequency of the behavior in the future. Ultimately, dogs repeat behaviors that create desirable consequences. Setting up the environment to help the dog make the right choices and then using positive reinforcement to reward those choices is the most humane behavior modification method if it can be applied safely.

4. Different reinforcement of alternative behaviors
Differential reinforcement involves strongly reinforcing certain alternative behaviors to the problem behavior. It also includes removing the reinforcer for the problem behavior.

5. Extinction, negative reinforcement and negative punishment
We don't spend a lot of time in this area until we have exhausted the other methods.

6. Positive punishment
This option is a last resort. Ideally we have applied all creative problem solving skills and never have to use this method. Environmental management, health, and less invasive techniques should be thoroughly implemented before utilizing positive punishment.

We consider ourselves to be humane dog trainers. Our goal is to bond with your dog - get them to energetically participate in their training so that they are calm and having fun in the process.

#GREATdogsgotoschool
I promise you I'm very alert right now πŸ§‘β€πŸŽ“ I promise you I'm very alert right now πŸ§‘β€πŸŽ“

Ears are not only for hearing - they are very expressive to how your dog is feeling!

When they are up and rotate forward they are:
🐢 Interested
🐢 Attentive
🐢 Excited

And that's when we know we're going to have a fantastic learning session!!!
